Summer Internship Opportunity
The Ellis County Conservation District is looking for an intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will have farm, ranch, or agricultural experience. This part time paid internship will provide an opportunity for students to gain practical experience with soil conservation practices. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with Area and State staff, Range Conservationists, Soil Scientists, Archaeologists, and Engineers. High school student preferred. This internship pays $20.00 per hour and requires 30-40 hours per week. It will run mid-May to mid-August. Hours are 7:30 am to 3:30 pm with time split between office work and field work.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Assist NRCS staff with data collection as requested through the Field Office
- Assist the District Conservationist in developing large area resource conservation plans
- Gather and compile planning data on rural and/or urban sites
- Compile resource information, prepare maps, and interpret soil survey data for use in conservation planning
- Work with farmers and other landowners to develop conventional conservation plans addressing resource concerns
- Provide technical support to conservation planners in resource planning by utilizing applicable NRCS survey tools and planning software
- Provide information and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers about Farm Bill and State conservation programs
