Plumbing, Heating & AC Instructor

This position has primary responsibility for providing leadership and direction in the areas of theory and laboratory activities of the specific instructional components relating to the students’ educational goals. Instructors develop curriculum and materials that respond to the workplace competencies for employment as an outcome for students. The instructor is directly responsible to the Dean of Instruction. General responsibilities include academic instruction with students, advising students, planning, leadership and professional involvement including professional associations and community service.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree in a related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of occupational experience in the applicable field.
  • Knowledge of the operation of instructional equipment and technology related to the program.
  • Desire to teach and support students through the teaching-learning process.
  • Knowledge of instructional resources and effective teaching methods.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background screening.

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and frequently push or pull 10–25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders and frequently crouch, squat, kneel, or crawl.
  • Frequent use of hands to operate tools, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Frequent operation of power tools and equipment.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals and industrial environments.
  • May occasionally work in extremely hot or cold conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and in situations requiring professional conflict resolution.

 

General Education

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use hands to operate computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to perform computer work for extended periods.
  • Close vision required for computer work and document review.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Primarily works in an indoor, climate-controlled environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and in situations requiring professional conflict resolution.

 

Essential Functions and Job Duties

  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and College policies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum that aligns with industry standards and student learning outcomes.
  • Review and recommend textbooks, instructional materials, and teaching resources.
  • Deliver quality classroom, laboratory, and/or shop instruction.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress and career goals.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources when needed.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities.
  • Serve as an active member of department and College committees as assigned.
  • Organize and participate in advisory committee meetings.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and professional classroom, laboratory, and shop environments.
  • Assist with planning and managing departmental budget requests.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, colleagues, business and industry partners, and the community.
  • Enforce College policies and procedures.
  • Assist in evaluating internship and clinical placements, when applicable.
  • Support student success through mentoring, advising, and academic engagement.
  • Evaluate curriculum and recommend updates to maintain program relevance and industry alignment.
  • Review assigned areas of the College website and recommend updates to ensure accuracy.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Fort Hays Tech | North Central.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President or their designee.
