Police Officer

The City of Hays is seeking dedicated and qualified individuals to serve the community as Police Officers. This vital role involves protecting the community, enforcing laws, responding to emergencies, and conducting criminal investigations. We are looking for candidates who possess integrity, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergencies and calls for service from the public.

  • Protects the community by enforcing local, state, and federal laws.

  • Writes detailed and accurate reports on incidents and activities.

  • Testifies in court proceedings as required.

  • Investigates crimes to identify and apprehend suspects.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Possess a valid Driver's License.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must not have a criminal record of felonies, domestic violence crimes, or any conduct that involves one's integrity.

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Lateral transfers from other law enforcement agencies are encouraged to apply. Starting pay will be adjusted for prior years of service.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting Annual Pay: Approximately $60,000* (this figure includes base pay and holiday pay).
