Position Description
Smoky Hill Education Service Center is seeking a dynamic, goal-driven leader to become our next Director of Finance and Human Resources. The Director will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, helping us analyze, strategize, and grow our financial position. This seasoned strategist will not only understand current accounting practices and trends but also will have experience raising capital and adapting to change. This role assists the Executive Director with budget preparation, financial analysis, and reporting, as well as developing and maintaining an effective system of accounting, managing the payroll system, and maintaining accurate financial records for audits. The position is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of Human Resources, which includes responsibilities in functional areas such as employee relations, training and development, benefits, Human Resource Information Systems, executive administration, and compensation. The position works in collaboration with the other administrative team members.Role Objectives
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with Smoky Hill Education Service Center’s mission and objectives
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting processes
- Collaborate with senior leadership to determine the organization’s goals and strategies related to staffing, recruiting, and retention
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new staff members
- Provide timely and informative performance evaluations
- Handle employee discipline, disputes, and termination according to the organization's policies
- Develop and implement budgets for all programs
- Prepare for audits of all programs and work with auditors
- Provide guidance to the Administrative Team and Executive Cabinet based on financial positions
- Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommend best practices to maintain compliance
- Process monthly employee payroll and payroll expenses
- Complete quarterly payroll report requirements and yearly tax documentation for staff
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement organizational strategies, objectives, and initiatives
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial and staffing analysis
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Proven progressive experience in finance and HR leadership roles, preferably within an educational or non-profit setting
- Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Capacity as a strategic thinker with the ability to drive initiatives and foster collaboration across departments.
- A four-year college degree or relevant work experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, Finance, or a related field
- At least five years of progressive human resource management and financial leadership experience
