Credit Union of America Expands to Hays With February 26 Opening
Credit Union of America (CUA) will officially open its newest branch at 2500 Vine St. in Hays on February 26. The Hays location will be CUA's 16th full-service branch, expanding the credit union's reach to serve more Kansans across the western part of the state.
“We are excited to announce our planned expansion to Hays, Kansas,” said Frank Shoffner, CEO of Credit Union of America. “This new market represents another step forward in our mission to serve more communities with our friendly, member-focused approach."
The branch will provide in-person financial services Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering personalized guidance on everyday banking, loans and financial planning. Two drive-thru interactive teller machines (ITMs) will provide 24-hour access to account services for added convenience.
Toni Murphy, regional branch manager, will oversee the Hays branch in addition to CUA’s Great Bend location. Murphy brings extensive experience in member service and community engagement, helping ensure a consistent and locally focused experience for members throughout Western Kansas. As part of its expansion, CUA has hired local team members to staff the Hays branch, supporting the local workforce and strengthening connections within the community.
Founded in 1935 as a teachers’ credit union, CUA now serves more than 100,000 members statewide. The credit union has a long-standing focus on supporting educators and healthcare professionals through specialized programs, financial education, and community investment. In fact, CUA has already established partnerships with Fort Hays State University and USD 489.
CUA was ranked No. 1 for Return to Members by Callahan & Associates’ Return of the Member (ROM) Index, based on third quarter 2025 data. The ranking placed CUA first among 208 peer credit unions nationwide within its asset size category. The credit union has also maintained its No. 1 auto lender status in the state of Kansas for four consecutive years, according to Experian Automotive's December 2025 Kansas Lender Summary.
The opening of the Hays branch represents another step in CUA’s ongoing effort to strengthen relationships, expand access, and serve more Kansans with a friendly, people-first approach to financial services.
